The Belles just released their new EP to Spotify and will hard release the EP everywhere this summer. We caught up with Kelly, who is a vivid songwriter and vocalist, and Jaymie, who sings backup harmonies and plays guitar, to talk about what makes Nashville special to them. They will be out on the road all year long and have opened for Brett Eldredge, Dan + Shay, Old Dominion, and Eli Young Band.
Say you had a completely free day in Nashville—no work allowed. What would you be doing?
We would probably sleep in, go shopping at Nordstrom Rack, walk around downtown Franklin, (hit up the Anthropology sale room), and grab a bite to eat at 55 South. Then we’d end our day catching a writer’s round at The Listening Room, especially if it was a Monday night at 6pm, as that’s Song Suffragettes, which we’ve played, and love to support women in country music.
What Nashville restaurants are you loving?
We love Grey’s on Main and 55 South in downtown Franklin. We also love Calypso in Berry Hill for their rotisserie chicken and sweet potatoes! Guilty pleasure is breakfast or lunch at the Puffy Muffin in Brentwood! For a great dinner, we love Kayne Prime!
You ladies are so trendy! Any favorite Nashville shops?
We both love to shop at 2 Old Hippies in the Gulch and Hero in 12 South, but we also find great deals sometimes at Nordstrom Rack. Anthropologie and Sephora at Green Hills Mall are two other favorites.
Is there anything you wished would come back into fashion?
Kelli: When I was growing up I remember my mom sometimes had the coolest crimped hair. I wish that would come back into style, so I could try it at least once!
Jaymie: I wish ballet flats would come back into style because I wear high heels a lot, and I’d love for my feet to be more comfortable!!
What excites you most about the Nashville music scene right now?
Moving here from Nebraska, we love how lively and diverse the music scene is in Nashville. We love meeting new unique artists and getting inspired by live music! What excites us most is the strong up and coming women in country music. There is a great feeling of camaraderie and cheering each other on. We also love songwriting and have met so many extremely gifted writers in co-writes. It’s very humbling and inspiring to get to work with these amazing people.
Where do you go to see live music?
We love to catch writers’ rounds at The Listening Room and The Bluebird Cafe. To find a lot of new up-and-coming bands, we go to 3rd & Lindsey, The Basement, or Whiskey Jam at Winners.
